Every venue here has a source and a date. Hours are as listed when we checked and they move with the season, so ring before a special trip.

An early 17th century building on High West Street that claims to be the oldest pub in town (the Black Dog says the same, so pick a side). Grade II listed, with a CAMRA one star historic interior from a 1930s refit, a beer garden and a dartboard.

The former brewery tap opposite the old Devenish brewery on Hope Square, known as the lifeboat man's pub, with a house Lifeboat Ale that supports the RNLI. Around five cask ales, a hundred rums and whiskies and live music out in the Square most summer weekends.

New Year’s Eve fancy dress
Weymouth Town Council’s own listing for The Big Weymouth New Years Eve Party 2024 says the town is renowned as the party venue for NYE, with live bands and parties in themed bars, and tells visitors to don their most outrageous fancy dress costume. The listing even calls the place Weybiza. The 2023 into 2024 edition was listed at various locations throughout the town, and the Pavilion’s Ocean Room and bars open on the night.
What we could not verify: when the fancy dress tradition started, whether there are fireworks or at what time, and the road closures or policing for 2026, which are not yet published. Check the council events page nearer the time.
The Purple Flag
Purple Flag is the night time equivalent of the Green Flag for parks, run by the Association of Town and City Management for town centres that manage their evening economy well. Weymouth was awarded it for the second time on 24 October 2019 passing all 30 criteria, for the fourth year running on 8 November 2021, and for the fifth consecutive year on 29 September 2022, when the Town Bridge and the Jubilee Clock were lit purple. By the council’s own count that puts the first award in 2018, though no page says so outright.
We found no council, BID or ATCM page confirming a renewal after September 2022, so we do not claim Weymouth holds it today. Check before you say it does.

- Abbotsbury Children's FarmClosed, website gone
The children's farm in Abbotssbury's medieval Tithe Barn closed some years ago. Its old website no longer exists, and the current Abbotsbury Swannery and Subtropical Gardens sites make no mention of it. The Tithe Barn site is now Abbey Farm Abbotsbury, a cafe with artisan studios.
Instead: Fancy's Farm on Portland is free-spirited, volunteer run and children can meet the animals. The Swannery down the road is the family day out Abbotsbury is famous for.
- Cineworld WeymouthClosed 30 December 2024
The town's only cinema shut after 25 years when the landlord rejected proposals to keep it going. It was the first of six sites closed under Cineworld's restructuring.
Instead: Weymouth Pavilion has shown films since 21 February 2025 on an eleven metre screen, including new releases and live streams. Otherwise Dorchester or Poole.

There is no bowling alley in Weymouth. Dorset Council bought the long leasehold in January 2022, demolition was approved unanimously in April 2024, and the cleared site has been under archaeological evaluation.
Instead: Nearest confirmed lanes are the Jurassic Fun Centre in Bridport, six ten pin lanes, bookable from noon.
